BENTON, IL -

Derrick Burns, the Chicago man accused of making threats against Southern Illinois University, pleaded guilty on Thursday.

The former SIU student was indicted in October on four counts of making bomb threats to the school in both 2012 and 2013.

The indictment says a US postal worker in Carbondale found a handwritten letter titled "The War on SIUC."

In it, Burns claimed to have raped and killed seven SIU students and threatened to bomb eight universities across the country.

Burns' sentencing is set for December 8.

He could get up to 8 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
