Art festival hopes to spark imagination in kids

Posted: Updated:

The Kids’ Creative Arts Street Festival, hosted by the Market House Theatre, took place on Saturday in Paducah.  Executive Director Market House Theatre Michael Cochran said it was the largest turnout they’ve had since the festival began 3 years ago with an estimated 3,600 attendees.

“We asked each of the arts groups to set up a booth hands that gave an interactive experience for kids to come do,” Cochran said. He says sitting in front of the television just doesn’t peak the minds of children. “It's passive.  “It’s all given to you when you're doing that. When kids are doing the arts, it makes them create things out of their imagination”

The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics says on average, the average person spends 3 hours a day in watching TV. Cochran wants this festival to spark a fire for possible alternatives to kids. The day was filled with crafts, good food, a play, and even a live magician.
