One killed in semi wreck on I-24

Posted: Updated:

Three semis wrecked on Interstate 24 near Kuttawa, Kentucky Monday morning.

Kentucky State Police say it all started when David Long of Memphis, Tennessee, was trying to make an illegal u-turn through the median near the 42 mile maker.

Long's trailer was blocking both eastbound lanes and another semi being driven by Wayne Woodham of Ozark, Alabama, hit Long's trailer.

Both semis ended up in the median.

Long was injured in the crash. Woodham was pronounced dead at the scene.

As emergency crews were responding to the wreck, another semi hit Long's semi.

Troopers says Bill Carter of Bogart, Georgia, saw a semi in front of him abruptly change lanes and brake.

Carter tried to do the same, but his semi jack-knifed and hit Long's semi.

Long's semi was not occupied when it was hit for a second time.

Carter was not injured.

The wrecks are being investigated.
