Round two for developing Paducah's riverfront

Posted: Updated:

City leaders made a few changes to help bring the Paducah riverfront development project closer to their budget of $5.1 million.

After tweaking plans for a third time, they’re opening bids again. In June, the development authority read aloud two bids, one was $7.8 million and the other was for $10 million.

Sandra Wilson, who serves on the Paducah Riverfront Development Authority, says it’s not uncommon to accept bids for a second time.

A couple of changes could mean a big change for Paducah, soon. “We specified the materials that would be used for the transient boat dock. There were some alternates that were in the previous bid that were taken out. We’re just hoping that will make a change,” Wilson said.

The development authority is hoping this round will mean more publicity and a lot more bids. Wilson is optimistic about the project getting done this time.

“We’re ready for this riverfront park to be developed, and we keep making those steps. We did have a stop, but I think maybe in the end it will be for the best. We’ll have a much better park, and it will be completed at a more affordable price.”

The city will begin looking at the bids on Sept. 9.
