Sheriff’s deputies in Henry County, Tennessee are still searching for the person who shot 65-year-old Jacky Ford on Highway 79 North in Buchanan. Deputies arrived at the scene at 7:32 p.m. on Friday. Since that time, Sheriff Monte Belew says no one has been arrested.
A white male wearing a blue ski mask approached Ford and his 11-year-old grandson while the two were playing a card game. The suspect reportedly fired two shots, one hitting Ford’s head. The suspect was also described to be wearing a short sleeve grey shirt with white writing on the black. His grandson also described him to be slender, maybe in late 30’s, and anywhere between 5’9 and 6’ in height.
The community is still in shock. Mary Washam, who has worked as a clerk at Kirk’s Market & Deli for 10 years, says he’ll be missed. “He came in here just about every day,” Washam added. She says he was a friendly guy who people spoke to, if they knew him. She says he was quiet and not the confrontational type.
Sheriff Belew says this isn’t common for the area. “We usually average one or two homicides a year,” he said. Although it’s a small-town that usually attracts people who want to hit the water, he believes the events on Friday were planned. “We believe that this was a deliberate act and premeditation was definitely a part of this crime.”
Belew says they need the community’s help. He urges anyone who may have been driving along Highway 79 in Buchanan between 7:15-7:45 that has any information to call (731) 642-1672 or anonymously report a tip at (731) 642-0929. The department is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
