PADUCAH, Ky -

A Paducah woman was arrested for allegedly giving prescription anti-anxiety medication to a baby.

The Paducah Police Department says Tuesday evening a five-month old baby was brought to Baptist Health Paducah.

The baby was lethargic and the mother was unable to fully wake her.

Tests showed the baby had been given benzodiazepine, an anti-anxiety drug.

The baby was treated and released. She is expected to make a full recovery.

Detectives interviewed 31-year-old April Burns who was babysitting the child on Monday while the mother was at work.

Police say Burns gave the baby the medication.

Burns was arrested on Thursday and booked into the McCracken County Regional Jail.

She has been charged with 2nd degree criminal abuse of a child and dispensing, prescribing, or administering a controlled substance.
