Help Wanted: Career expectations vs. reality

Posted: Updated:

In this week's Help Wanted: Are your career expectations out of line with reality? Your high school student's may be.

A new survey from CareerBuilder found that high school students' expectations are high. They're more likely than current workers to associate success with the following three things: a sense of accomplishment, the ability to make a positive impact on other people's lives, and making a lot of money.

In fact, high school students today were nearly three times as likely as current workers to say they need to make $200,000 or more to be successful.

One in four current workers said they'd feel successful making less than $50,000 a year.
