Kentucky State Police Trooper Cameron Ponder was fatally shot Sunday night while pursuing a man with a suspended license on Interstate 24.

Ponder had recently started working at KSP Post 1. He was originally from central Kentucky.

A few hours ago, loved ones took Ponder's casket from his funeral to the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky. He was buried with military honors for his years of service with the U.S. Navy.

Hundreds of police officers across the state and the country came to honor ponder Friday, filling the Severns Valley Baptist Church in Elizabethtown.

State Police Commissioner Rodney Brewer remembered Ponder as a hero "in the truest sense of the word —not just because of how he died but, more importantly, how he lived his life."

Many have said it was an blessing to know Ponder.
