Bringing a nuclear-power facility back to Paducah —Kentucky State Rep. Gerald Watkins says he's getting more support for his bill to do so.
The bill aims to lift the state's moratorium that bans construction of a nuclear-power facility until the United States finds a central location to house the country's nuclear waste.
It also proposes to clarify that any nuclear-energy facility can only be located in a community that has previously been involved in the making of nuclear products —limiting it to the Paducah area.
Watkins testified about the proposal Thursday during a meeting of the Kentucky General Assembly’s Economic Development and Tourism Committee. Robert Weber with the Kentucky legislature's public information office says the proposal is expected to be considered during the general assembly's 2016 session.
