A Murphysboro, Illinois, man was convicted and sentenced in the aggravated battery of his roommate Tuesday, according to the Jackson County state's attorney's office.

In Tuesday's announcement, State's Attorney Michael Carr said 50-year-old Shane Pfister was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty in circuit court on Sept. 22.

Pfister's roommate was found by Murphysboro police on Dec. 1, 2014, at his Herbert Street home with "multiple slice wounds to his hands, body and neck area," and had to be taken to a local hospital, according to the state's attorney's office. The victim told police he and Pfister were arguing over another person who lived at the residence when the victim hit Pfister with his fist. Then, the state's attorney's office says, Pfister began swinging a machete at the victim, cutting him multiple times.

Pfister was sentenced to serve 30 months in prison, followed by two years of mandatory supervised release.
