Paducah Main Street getting into holiday spirit with shopping push

Posted: Updated:

Downtown Paducah business owners say they've seen more foot traffic in recent months, and the interest to shop and support local businesses is what drew Joseph Reginelli to 309 Broadway.

"They continue to come in and shop, and it's growing every day," Reginelli said of the interest to his business.

He owns Cuvee Candle Company. Reginelli is an Arkansas transplant and is finishing his third week in retail downtown. "The opportunity happened, and I was looking to grow my business. Timing was correct, so I went with it," he said.

Reginelli is one of five new business owners to open shop within the last six months.

Downtown Development Specialist Melinda Winchester is in her second year promoting downtown Paducah and is planning a lot of promotions between now and the 83 days until Christmas.

"There's so many things besides just the shopping and the restaurants. We have the culture, the art," Winchester told Local 6.

Earlier this year she started the #IAmDowntown and #WeAreDowntown social media campaigns to get people interested in understanding what downtown has to offer.

"It's really not just the businesses downtown or the people who live down here, but everyone in the community —that something special downtown to them," she said.

To bring that attention to downtown, Winchester said stores will once again offer deals for Small Business Saturday and the weekends leading up to and including the last shopping weekend before Christmas. "It's going to have a pajama shopping theme to it. So, people who want to come out in their pajamas and shop," she said.
