Murray State to honor alumnus with memorial dedication

Posted: Updated:

Murray State University is holding a memorial dedication to celebrate the life of the late Jim Carter, who the school said is "one of its dearest members."

Carter  served the university for 30 years until his death in February after a battle with cancer. He was the former vice president of institutional advancement at Murray State and executive director of the MSU Alumni Association.

Carter will be honored with a dedication service at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the alumni brick plaza on the north lawn of MSU's Sid Easley Alumni Center, which will be unveiled as the Carter Alumni Plaza.

In addition to the plaza, Carter’s legacy continues through the Carter’s Kids on Campus fund. The program was set up with Carter’s help to bring groups of prospective students to campus who otherwise may not have the chance to make a visit. MSU says the program encourages first-generation students to explore the possibility of attending college.
