Police capture man who shot at police officer

Police captured a man who shot at a police officer Monday evening.

Illinois State Police say around 10:45 p.m. a Cambria police officer approached a man on Sycamore Road.

The man identified himself as 23-year-old Billy Jearlds of Carterville and ran away into a nearby wooded area.

As he ran, he shot at the officer. The officer returned fire.

The officer was not injured.

Jearlds was captured around 7:45 a.m. near where the shooting took place.

He had a minor wound.

Police are unsure at this time if the wound is related to the shooting.
