MURRAY, KY -

The Kentucky State Police has made an arrest in a fraud case out of Murray.

KSP says Trooper Jody Cash arrested 24-year-old Takisha "Kiki" Brown of Murray on a charge of theft by deception under $500. The charge stems from an investigation into a fundraiser conducted, for which KSP says the money didn't go to the family it was supposed to be raised for.

State police say Lexus Benton was injured in a wreck in June and later died from her injuries. Before she died, a GoFundMe account was set up to raise money for her family to cover medical bills. T-shirts were also sold to raise money, which was also supposed to be given to the family. KSP says all the money wasn't given to the family.

Benton's grandmother Anna French told Local 6 Lexus was, "So smart. She had two, three part-time jobs.  She put herself through college. She was in her third semester.  She owned her own house.  She paid her own bills."

KSP is asking anyone who may have given money to contact Trooper Jody Cash at 270-856-3721.
