Grand Rivers Tourism Commission appoints executive director

Posted: Updated:

The Grand Rivers Tourism Commission has announced the appointment of a new executive director of tourism for the Kentucky town.

The tourism commission has named Christine Thompson as its new executive director. Thompson most recently worked as an account executive at the Paducah Sun, and her hospitality background includes eight years in marketing and customer service at Harrah’s of Metropolis, Illinois.

Thompson is a Paducah native and holds a bachelor's degree in international relations from Murray State University. The tourism commission says she will direct its customer service, event planning and "all aspects of Grand Rivers marketing and branding efforts."

“Christine’s background in customer service, creative marketing, and market research will help us take our organization to the next level,” Tourism Commission Chairman William Gary said in the announcement. “We are excited to welcome her to our team.”

Thompson said she looks forward to working in Grand Rivers.

"Grand Rivers offers a unique small town experience. Tourism is thriving, and times have never been better for growing tourism in a small town," Thompson said. "(Previous executive director) Kim Kraemer has established a solid foundation for tourism growth in Grand Rivers, and I would like to build on that.  There is plenty more to be achieved.”
