Benton, Ky teen arrested after found driving recklessly by sheriff's deputies

A Benton, Kentucky teenager was arrested for reckless driving after McCracken County deputies saw him making donuts in a parking lot.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says they were called to Southland Baptist Temple in Paducah on reports of a reckless driver in the parking lot.

Two deputies saw a blue Chevy truck drive towards the church on Temple drive and cut through a flooded ditch, throwing mud on the a deputy's vehicle.

The deputies said that the truck then continued to make donuts in the parking lot next to the church.

The truck then stopped and the two deputies were able to talk to the occupants.

The deputies say the truck had expired registration and the driver, 19-year-old Joseph McClelland of Benton, Kentucky, had a suspended driver's license.

During a search of the truck, deputies also found a glass smoking pipe with residue.

McClelland was arrested and charged with:
- reckless driving
- obstructed vision and/or windshield
- operating on suspended or revoked operating license
- no registration plates
- no registration receipt
- failure of owner to maintain required insurance
- possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine
- drug paraphernalia - buy/possess

A passenger in the truck, 18-year-old Austin Gipson, was arrested on an unrelated warrant.
