Kentucky Republicans celebrate, urge diligence going forward

Posted: Updated:

Kentucky Republicans are basking in their statewide election victories but warning conservatives to guard against the types of mistakes that plagued the party the last time they were in power.
Matt Bevin and four other statewide Republican elected officials spoke to the state party's central committee on Saturday for the first time since the Nov. 3 election. Republicans now hold four of the six statewide elected offices.
Republicans had a similar grip on power just eight years ago with Gov. Ernie Fletcher, whose term ended in scandal as he was indicted for violating state law regarding hiring practices.
Bevin told the crowd many are looking for him to make the same mistakes. But he called his election a "cry for help" from Kentuckians and said he is focused on representing them.
