MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

Two cars collided Tuesday afternoon, stopping traffic at a busy intersection for a time in McCracken County and sending four people to area hospitals.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. on Lovelaceville Road at the intersection with Highland Church Road.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department says 23-year-old Donna Stephens of Paducah was driving a 2001 Honda Accord westbound on Lovelaceville Road. Stephens approached the intersection when, deputies say, she saw a vehicle in her path.

Deputies say 77-year-old Mary Buchanan of Paducah was driving a 2008 Buick SUV southbound on Highland Church Road when she approached the stop sign at Highland Church and Lovelaceville Road. Deputies day witnesses told them Buchanan failed to completely stop and continued eastbound onto Lovelaceville Road.

The sheriff's department says Buchanan's SUV hit the passenger's side of Stephens' car as Stephens was crossing Buchanan's path facing eastbound.

Deputies say Buchanan failed to yield the right of way to Stephens and failed to heed the stop sign. Buchanan was not injured in the wreck.

Stephens sustained injuries that deputies described as non-incapacitating and was taken to an area hospital.

A man sitting in Stephens' front passenger seat — 21-year-old Nikolas Melendez of Paducah — was taken to an area hospital for "non-incapacitating" injuries as well. A child — 6-year-old Alaya Pearson of Dyersburg, Tennessee — was sitting in the middle rear seat, and her mother — 28-year-old Shannon Pearson — was seated in the rear passenger side seat. They were also taken to the hospital for "non-incapacitating" injuries.

Seated in the driver's side rear seat was 21-year-old Randall Barrow of Paducah.  He was not injured.

The sheriff's department says the Lone Oak Fire Department and Mercy EMS assisted at the scene, and  Affordable Towing assisted with clean up of the roadway and towing the vehicles.
