McCracken County deputies say a man lead them through a high-speed chase after he was attempting to shoplift from the Five Star convenience store on John Puryear Drive.
Deputies noticed a red 2004 Nissan Altima leaving the parking lot that matched the description of the suspect vehicle given by the clerk during the 911 call. When deputies tried to stop the driver, Jeremy Egan, 34, he sped off, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.
Deputies say Egan attempted to turn at the intersection of Yarbro and Estes Lanes but ran ran into a ditch. Egan and his front seat passenger, Amy Cash, 29, were taken to Lourdes Hospital for minor injuries.
Another passenger was not injured. The investigation revealed Egan was trying to steal cheesecake, a lighter and candy from the store when the clerk confronted him. Deputies say Egan had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation in McCracken County.
He was arrested and charged with shoplifting, wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading, assault, criminal mischief, speeding, no driver's license, failure to maintain insurance, reckless driving and disregarding a stop sign.
Cash was also issued a citation to appear in court for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
