MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

Three people were injured after getting into a wreck on the Interstate 24 Ohio River Bridge between Paducah and Metropolis around 8:20 a.m. Monday.

The wreck happened when a van rear-ended a pickup truck on the westbound side of the bridge. McCracken County deputies said the truck was stalled on the bridge and no one was inside.

Deputies say the truck's driver — 30-year-old Cody Atkinson of Metropolis — left the truck to get gas in Illinois, and the passenger in the truck — 30-year-old Sarah Morales, also from Metropolis — left the truck later because she was afraid to sit in it alone. She started walking toward Paducah.

Deputies say the driver of the van, 70-year-old Jimmy Crowder from Elkton, Kentucky, told them he was distracted when he saw Morales walking on the bridge and didn't see the truck. Crowder didn't seek medical treatment, but three passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries: 52-year-old Lois Yoder, 79-Year-old Gideon Brennenan, and 77-year-old Katie Brennenan, all from Guthrie.

The Paducah Police Department, the Paducah Fire Department, Mercy Regional Ambulance service, the Massac County Ambulance Service,  the Brookport Fire Department and the Metropolis Fire Department assisted at the scene. Traffic was blocked for about an hour and 45 minutes for cleanup and investigation.
