Funding for 911 facilities in Illinois released by governor

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD, IL -

911 facilities across Illinois will be getting more funding from the state.

Governor Bruce Rauner recently signed legislation releasing nearly $2 billion in funds owed to local governments.

$77 million of that money is from the Wireless Emergency Telephone Safety Act.

The money is used to fund 911 facilities.

Money for the act is collected through a 75 cent surcharge on wireless telephones bills.

Of that surcharge 65 cents goes to the Wireless Services Emergency Fund.
