Demolition of a building at 432 Broadway Street in Paducah is moving forward as city leaders approved a contract for work at the site Tuesday night.
The Paducah Board of Commissioners approved an ordinance for a $19,750 contract with Darnell Steel and Construction, LLC. The company will reinforce steel columns under the steel beam that supports the Varney Building, which sits next door to the building to be demolished.
Paducah originally signed a contract with Environmental Abatement Incorporated for about $460,000 to demolish the building, but demolition was stopped until an engineer could design temporary and permanent shoring of the Varney Building.
To accommodate the delay -- the city agreed to increase the contract to about $480.000.
