Man charged with attempted rape in Charleston, Missouri

CHARLESTON, Mo. -

A man accused of breaking into a woman's home and trying to rape her was arrested Tuesday, according to the Charleston, Missouri, Department of Public Safety. 

The DPS got a call about a home invasion on West Ashby Street in Charleston around 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. Police say the victim reported that a man broke into her house and tried to rape her before running away. She gave officers a description, and an officer found a man police say matched her description a short time later near the home. 

Police say the man, 28-year-old Jeremy Rigney of Charleston, is being held at the Mississippi County Jail on a $500,000, cash only bond. He has been charged with first degree burglary, first degree attempted rape, first degree elder abuse and felonious restraint.
