At Lourdes, our mission is at the core of everything we do. More importantly, it extends beyond the walls of our facilities and impacts the health and lives of our community.

The health care industry is in a time of transition and while we are experiencing increased volumes, the decline of reimbursements continues to be a significant challenge. To ensure our ability to continue our mission, we made the difficult but necessary decision to close the Lourdes Childcare facility effective January 29, 2016.

This closure will impact families with children currently enrolled in the program. The families of the children attending the center were notified today and we have provided names and contact information for other community child care centers. In addition, Lourdes Child Care Center manager, Pat Hayes, has announced that she will be opening a new center, West End Kids Academy, at 135 Memorial Drive, Paducah with space for up to 85 full time spots.

As such, a number of Lourdes Childcare positions were eliminated. Employees were notified of these changes in a sensitive and respectful manner consistent with our mission and core values. Lourdes is committed to working with these individuals to explore other employment opportunities within Lourdes and Mercy Health.

When faced with this difficult decision, our primary focus was to ensure our ability to continue to provide safe, high-quality care and an excellent patient experience. Although the decisions being made today are difficult, we believe the changes will position Lourdes and Mercy Health to provide high-quality care for generations to come.
