Christian County judge signs order appointing daughter
HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) -
Christian County's chief circuit judge has signed an order appointing his daughter to the position of master commissioner.
The Kentucky New Era reports Judge John Atkins was the only judge who signed the order appointing Jill Riley Atkins. She will replace outgoing commissioner David Arvin beginning Jan. 1.
Spokeswoman Leigh Anne Hiatt for the Administrative Office of the Courts says master commissioners serve each Kentucky county, assisting the state's judges with judicial sales, special proceedings and other duties as directed by the court.
State law says the person is appointed to the position by a majority of the judges in any given judicial circuit with more than one judge.
Of Christian County's three judges, Atkins says he and Judge Jason Fleming both voted yes while Judge Andrew Self abstained.
