Amtrak using charter buses for City of New Orleans train due to flooding
By Staff report
CARBONDALE, IL -
Amtrak says for about seven days starting Tuesday, it will use charter buses for travelers using the City of New Orleans train between Carbondale, Illinois, and New Orleans, Louisiana, because of recent flooding in the Midwest and mid-south.
Amtrak says the rains and flooding have prevented it from operating at normal capacity.
It says passengers traveling south on the City of New Orleans from Chicago will transfer to buses at Carbondale before proceeding south to Memphis, where they will re-board Amtrak. Passengers traveling north on the City of New Orleans from New Orleans will transfer to buses at Memphis before preceding north to Carbondale, where they will re-board Amtrak.
Amtrak says Illini and/or Saluki train services will not be affected.
