Paducah police warn of phone scam

PADUCAH, KY -

Police say they want to warn the public about a telephone scam targeting people in the Paducah area.

Officers say over the weekend they received reports of the scam from three people in Paducah. They each told police they received calls from a man with a Jamaican accent who claimed he was with Publisher's Clearing House and told them to wire money to get $10,000 immediately. The man said he would deliver $10 million to them at a later date.

The Paducah Police Department says it wants to remind people not to send money to anyone over the phone, "unless you are absolutely sure who you are dealing with." Police also advise not to provide personal information like your social security number of banking information.

"If you are in doubt," the police department said in a news release Monday, "Err on the side of caution."
