OWENSBORO, Ky -

Kentucky State Police have released the name of a Owensboro, Kentucky man who was shot and killed by a police officer Thursday.

Troopers say the suspect is 34-year-old Kenneth Clay.

Clay was fatally shot as officers were investigated a burglary call in which the suspect had ran away on foot.

After finding Clay, officers told him to surrender.

Troopers say that Clay knelt to seemingly comply, but when an officer went to use a taser, Clay aimed a firearm at the officer.

It was then that troopers say Owensboro Police Officer Eric Flory shot the suspect.

Clay died at the scene. An autopsy showed that he died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Flory is a seven year veteran at the Owensboro Police Department. He was place on paid administrative leave, which is normal protocol.

Troopers say the firearm that Clay had on him was reported stolen from Evansville, Indiana.

The investigation is ongoing.
