The National Weather Service has issued wind chill advisories for much of Illinois as temperatures dipped into the single digits this weekend.
The weather service is warning residents in northern Illinois on Sunday to expect wind chills to be between 15 and 25 below zero during the day. Forecasters say those numbers will drop to wind chills between 20 and 28 degrees below zero overnight Sunday into Monday morning.
In central Illinois, forecasters have advisories in effect until 11 a.m. on Monday with wind chills expected to drop to between 15 and 25 degrees below zero.
The advisories are in effect for all of Illinois north of Charleston and Carlinville.
In Chicago, the city is encouraging residents to check on neighbors and use warming centers if needed.
