Ballard Wildlife Management Area reopens to hunting Friday

Posted: Updated:
BALLARD COUNTY, Ky. -

The Ballard Wildlife Management Area in Ballard County will reopen to hunting on Friday, according to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

The WMA has been closed since late December because of high water levels on the Ohio River. The fish and wildlife department reports about 160,000 ducks at Ballard WMA and nearby Boatwright WMA as of Tuesday.

“There are more ducks than I’ve ever seen on Ballard and Boatwright,” Area Manager Robert Colvis said in a news release Tuesday. “Portions of Boatwright WMA remain inaccessible and there is a lot of ice on both areas.”
