Minnesota man injured in southern Illinois wreck

Posted: Updated:

Illinois State Police say a Minnesota man was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at mile post 105 on Interstate 57 North in Jefferson County at 9:34 a.m. Friday.

ISP says 44-year-old Matthew Strauss of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, was in the left lane in his Dodge Charger approaching a straight truck in the right lane. The truck was switching to the left lane, and ISP says Strauss Strauss failed to slow down as he approached the rear of the truck and hit the back of the truck.

The Dodge came to rest in the median, and ISP says Strauss suffered "incapacitating injuries" and had to be taken by ambulance to a local hospital. The Dodge had to be towed from the scene, but the straight truck was not damaged enough to require towing. The driver of the truck, 50-year-old Brian Fuller of Cumming, Georgia, was uninjured, according to state police.

ISP says Strauss was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
