Dr. Ted Jefferson makes first court appearance

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

Dr. Ted Jefferson made his first court appearance in McCracken County court on Tuesday.

The doctor is accused of making gun-related remarks at Baptist Health Paducah on January 26.

He faces charges of disorderly conduct and terroristic threatening.

Jefferson pleaded not guilty to those charges.

His lawyer, Bard Brian, says he doesn't think these charges will rise to criminal actions.

"The statement that lead to his arrest was almost 24 hours before hand. So I have trouble understanding how he's some sort of threat when it takes 24 hours before there's a complaint and then an arrest. You would think if somebody is a serious threat, there would be an immediate arrest but there was not in this case," said Bard Brian, criminal defense lawyer.

Jefferson will be back in court in two weeks.

A note was sent out on Tuesday to the staff at Baptist Health Paducah and they shared it with us. It reads, in part:

"Charges related to the threats are now in the proper hands of the court system. As you may have noticed in the last week, the matter is being covered in the news media. As a matter of best practice, we wanted to make you aware that Baptist Health Paducah does not typically comment on pending legal matters."
