This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kentucky and as part of the week, a statewide tornado drill will be held.
Around 9:07 a.m. on Tuesday, a tornado warning test message will be issued.
At that time, outdoor warning sirens, weather alert radios, and television and radio stations will broadcast the alert.
During the drill, all Kentuckians are encouraged to practice their tornado safety plan.
Here is what you need to conduct a tornado drill at home or work: - Make sure everyone knows where the tornado shelter is. Basements are best, but if there is no basement, use an interior bathroom, closet, or other enclosed space on the lowest level of a building. - Start the drill and have everyone head to the designated tornado shelter. - All those in the tornado shelter should crouch as low as possible to the floor, facing down, covering their heads with their hands. - After the mock tornado has passed, go over your drill to see if any improvements can be made.
