Murray American Legion post warns against scam calls
By Staff report
MURRAY, KY -
American Legion Post 73 in Murray says a phone scam in which a caller falsely claims to be raising money through the post is targeting people in Murray and Calloway County.
Service Officer Mark Kennedy says the caller claims to be raising money for troops deployed oversees and asks victims for a debit or credit card number to make a donation over the phone.
"We do not raise funds in this manner and never will," Kennedy says. He says it's "shameful" someone would lie like that to get people's credit card numbers.
“The members of Post 73 work tirelessly ushering MSU football games and providing traffic control for basketball games to raise funds to assist veterans in west Kentucky,” Kennedy said. He noted members of Post 73 are easily recognized in their blue and gold shirts and hats.
He said if you have a question about the post's activities or if you get a suspicious call claiming to be from them, you can ask post members about it or call him at 270-752-3333.
