Teen charged with shooting Mounds police officer surrenders to sheriff's department

UPDATE Feb. 24: The Pulaski County, Illinois, Sheriff's Department says a teen charged with shooting a Mounds police officer surrendered Wednesday.

The sheriff's department says 17-year-old Nigel Williams is being held at the Pulaski County Detention Center. Bail has been set at $250,000. 


ORIGINAL Feb. 23: Police are looking for a teenager charged with shooting a Mounds, Illinois police officer.

Seventeen-year-old Nigel Williams is accused of shooting and injuring Mounds, Illinois police officer Lyle Womack on July 8, 2015.

Pulaski County Sheriff Randy Kern says Williams was released from the Pulaski County Detention Center on January 11 pending his trial.

Williams was scheduled to appear in court on Monday, February 22, but never showed up.

Later that night, a curfew check was conduct at Williams' home.

Sheriff Kern says Williams was at the home, but fled from officers before they could speak with him.

Williams is still at large. A nationwide warrant of $250,000 is out for his arrest.

He should be considered armed and dangerous.
