Local K9 to get body armor

Posted: Updated:

A local K9 will receive body armor thanks to a charitable donation.

The Mounds Police Department says K9 Bravo is getting a bullet and stab protection vest thanks to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.

The organization provides bullet and stab protection vests to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States.

Bravo will get his vest in about eight to ten weeks.

He is a 5-year-old Belgian Malinois and is certified in patrol, tracking, and narcotics detection. His handler is Officer Lyle Womack.

Womack was injured in July of last year. He was shot while exchanging fire with a suspect following an attempted home invasion. Bravo was not injured during the incident.
