John A. Logan board considers staffing cuts

Posted: Updated:
CARTERVILLE, Ill. -

"This college is being torn apart." Those words came from one of many students at John A. Logan Community College in Carterville, Illinois, Wednesday night as the college's board of trustees looked at cutting 55 jobs, including 35 faculty positions.

It's to make up for a lack of state funding. The students, along with faculty and community members, were pleading with the board over the potential cuts.

Earlier Wednesday the Illinois House failed to override Gov. Bruce Rauner's veto on a bill that would have helped low-income college students. If the house had succeeded, the bill would have approved $396 million for MAP grants and $324 million to community colleges.

As of when this story aired, the meeting is still ongoing. Rachel Krause will bring you more on this story Thursday.
