MCCRACKEN COUNTY, KY -

A driver and passenger were taken to a local hospital Tuesday after a single-vehicle wreck in McCracken County, according to sheriff's deputies.

Deputies responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. Deputies say 24-year-old Ansley Zirkle of Paducah was driving on Lovelaceville Florence  Station Road when she entered a curve too fast, overcorrected, and hit a dirt embankment. They say the car is believed to have flipped at least once before coming to a rest.

Zirkle and a passenger, 29-year-old Steven Charliss of Kevil, were taken by Mercy Regional EMS to Lourdes hospital with injuries described as non-incapacitating.

Deputies say Zirkle was under the influence of alcohol when the wreck happened. After she was released from the hospital, she was arrested and charged with reckless driving, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs on the first offense, fourth degree assault (minor injury) and first degree wanton endangerment. Deputies say the assault and wanton endangerment charges stem from the injuries sustained by Charliss.

The sheriff’s department was assisted on the scene by Mercy Regional, the Lone Oak and Hendron fire departments, and Speedy’s Towing.
