Kentucky Transportation Cabinet wanting additional law enforcement presence in work zone

Posted: Updated:
GRAVES COUNTY, KY -

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is wanting a bigger police presence along the Julian Caroll-Purchase Parkway at the KY 80 Exit 22 interchange in Graves County.

Crews are currently working on building a new overpass at the interchange.

Because of this, Purchase Parkway traffic is being temporarily being detoured via the ramps.

Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Department says some drivers are avoiding the detour by illegally using the emergency crossovers.

Todd says over the last few days there have been reports of non-emergency vehicles using the crossovers to avoid the 2 minute detour.

One of those drivers was involved in a crash.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet wants law enforcement at the crossovers to make sure non-emergency vehicles are not using them to avoid the detour.

Illegally using the crossovers carries a fine and court costs of about $300.

A detour is expected to be in place until about July 1st.
