JOHNSON COUNTY, IL -
A summer camp for kids age 8 to 17 in the Local 6 area has announced it has $50,000 in scholarships available for summer 2016.
Camp Ondessonk in Ozark, Illinois, says the scholarships are designed to make the camp more accessible to kids from all economic backgrounds. Three types of scholarship opportunities are available. General and St. Kateri scholarships provide partial tuition coverage, and Monsignor Fournie Scholarships provide full tuition coverage.
“We are delighted to announce these scholarship opportunities, which reflect the importance of children’s outdoor education programs.” Executive Director Dan King said in Monday's announcement. “Our Summer Camp program is committed to a whole-child approach, which provides our campers with personal development and leadership skills, while promoting a stewardship for and appreciation of God’s gifts.”
"Kids need places such as Camp Ondessonk for reasons that go far beyond fun," King said. "The life-experience they gain at camp is a catalyst for strengthened self-esteem and developing a greater sense of awareness of the things that really matter when it comes to growing into conscientious and productive adults."
Families who want to apply for a summer camp scholarship can visit Camp Ondessonk’s website or call toll free 877-659-2267 to request scholarship application materials sent by mail.
