Many people will be celebrating St. Patrick's Day and local police will be on patrol looking for drunk drivers.
Both Kentucky and Illinois State Police urge anyone who is going out drinking in celebrating of the holiday to plan ahead and have a designated driver.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, St. Patrick's Day is one of the nation's deadliest holidays. More than half of the fatal crashes that occurred last year during the St. Patrick's Day holiday involved drunk drivers.
Police urge you to do the follow if you are planning on drinking: - Plan ahead. Designate a sober driver before the party begins. - If you've been drinking, call a taxi, use mass transit, or call a sober friend to pick you up. - If you are hosting a party, serve plenty of food and non-alcoholic beverages. Never let your guests drive home after drinking - If you know people who are about to drive while impaired, take their keys and help them make other arrangements.
