The U.S. Forest Service at Shawnee National Forest says it's planning to conduct a prescribed fire on Friday if the weather permits.
The fire will be in the Jackson Falls area, about 6 miles southeast of Ozark, Illinois. The forest service says the prescribed fire area involves about 130 acres.
Fire personnel will carefully monitor smoke generated, and the forest services says members of the public can expect the bulk of smoke to be visible in mid-afternoon and dissipate after dark.
