Forecasters predict less snow for some parts of Northeast

Posted: Updated:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -

Forecasters are now predicting less snow as a weekend storm bears down on the Northeast, but some parts could still see several inches of accumulation on the first official day of spring.

The National Weather Service says coastal parts of southern New England, including Cape Cod and the islands, could see 4 to 7 inches of snow Sunday through Monday.

Mid-Atlantic cities like Philadelphia and New York could get 1 to 2 inches.

Forecasters in northern New England say accumulation could be 2 inches on the coast and less inland as the storm appears to be moving out to sea.

The Northeast has had a relatively tame winter, with mild temperatures in mid-Atlantic cities and lower-than-average snowfall in New England.
