MARION, IL -

A Marion, Illinois, woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges she provided contraband to an inmate and lied to federal investigators, according to the office of the acting U.S. attorney for the southern district of Illinois.

The attorney's office says 42-year-old Renee Strauss pleaded guilty to a four count information charging two counts of making false statements to a special agent of the United States Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General, one count of providing a cellphone to an inmate and one count of attempting to provide other contraband to an inmate.

The information alleged that between June 2015 and Sept. 27, 2015, Strauss provided contraband to an inmate and then lied to agents who were investigating that misconduct while she was working as a case manager and correctional officer at the United States Penitentiary at Marion. Strauss, who has been on administrative leave since Sept.27, resigned her position before she pleaded guilty.

Sentencing is set for 10 a.m. on June 29 at the United States District Courthouse in Benton, Illinois.
