Marshall County E911 board voices support for 911 fee

MARSHALL COUNTY, KY -

Those who answer your emergency 911 calls say they want the service to stay local. This, after Marshall County Judge Executive Kevin Neal said the county was exploring other options for 911  because of funding reasons.

Marshall County's E911 board threw their support Thursday behind one of the options: a fee. The Marshall County E911 Center has three main sources of income: state funds from wireless subscribers, money from landline fees, and a subsidy from the fiscal court.

The board says the total incoming funds, more than $300,000, are not enough to cover their almost $600,000 budget. The proposed estimated $30 fee would be administered per household per year, and would get rid of the current landline fees.

The board discussed whether the fee would be attached to property values or utilities.
