I am Local 6: Local Boy Scout Carsen Easely earns all 138 merit badges

CRITTENDEN COUNTY, Ky. -

He's the youngest, most decorated boy scout in the area. The Kentucky Senate even passed a resolution recognizing him as a distinguished scout. Carsen Easely says his journey started when he joined the Boy Scouts five years ago, but it's the motivation behind the badges that's the most important.

His achievements are pinned to his chest. They run up and down three separate sashes and hang all over the walls. Carsen Easley's 138 merit badges are like a map of his experiences, including scuba diving — which is his favorite — robotics, and space exploration.

He's the youngest in the region to earn his eagle, the highest scouting award, and all 138 merit badges the Boy Scouts of America has to offer.

"They say I look like a decorated general," he jokes.

You have to complete certain tasks to earn each merit badge, and even some awards are too secret for those outside the circle to know about.

With 138 badges, Carsen has trouble finding them all. He says part of his motivation is to do something few have done before.

"You can put your mind to it, you can do it," he says.

But when asked about what's the best thing he's ever done, he said: "The feeling whenever I help someone."

Carsen's mom, Saundra, says he's been strong-willed and hard-headed since he was little, but now she calls him determined.

"He went above and beyond with time to spare," she says.

Carsen's a young scout who's achieved a lot, but he says it's just the beginning.

Carsen says after high school and Boy Scouts, he wants to be a surgeon. Before that, he has his eye on three new badges the Boy Scouts have yet to release.
