McCracken County Library adult summer reading program to highlight local flair

Posted: Updated:

The McCracken County Public Library says programs for its 2016 adult summer reading lineup will deal with community interests such as local history, sustainability, cycling, technology, and arts and crafts.

The library announced Thursday that theme of this year’s lineup, Locally Grown, is a celebration of the things that make Paducah unique. It's partnering with local businesses, educators, and artists for the program.

The summer reading program will start with a live performance by award-winning  blues act Alonzo Pennington Band. The show starts at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 2 in the library garden. The library says ice pops, crafts, and activities for all ages will be provided.

Other highlights of this year's adult summer reading lineup include:

  • Berry Fest at the Paducah Farmer’s Market on Saturday, June 18
  • Bicycling Smarts presented by Bike World on Tuesday, June 21
  • App-y Hour with library technology staff on Friday, July 8
  • Yoga in the Garden with True North Yoga on Saturday, July 16 (signup required)
  • What Is a Native Plant? Presented by horticulturist Kathryn Wimberly on Friday, July 22
