Police say two arrested in Carbondale after incident involving gun

Two people were arrested in Carbondale, Illinois, after an altercation involving a gun, according to police. 

Officers say they responded to a report of a suspect with a firearm around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of North Glenview Street. They say the victim in the incident and an acquaintance named Samson Hollins had an argument at a business in the 1200 block of West Main Street, and the two agreed to meet on North Glenview Street to fight. 

Once they met, police say a second suspect, who known to Hollins and the victim, began waving a handgun in the air.  The suspect, who police identify as Theresa Hughes and Hollins left in a vehicle. 

Police say an officer in the area responded to the scene and saw the vehicle in the 1900 block of West Main Street. They say Hollins tried to discard the handgun, which was recovered.

There were no injuries as a result of this incident, according to police. 

Hughes was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, possession of firearm with no FOID, and Possession of drug paraphernalia.  Hollins was arrested and charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.  

Hollins and Howard were jailed at the Jackson County Jail.
