Here are six things to know for today.

There have been state of emergency declarations, five deaths, schools closed, and dramatic water rescues in flood-devastated Texas. The governor is urging everyone to stay indoors and take all public safety warnings seriously.

More than 400 people died in the earthquake in Ecuador. Rescuers are racing against time to find survivors. Some of them have been trapped since the weekend.

The Taliban claims responsibility for staged coordinated assaults on a key government security agency in Afghanistan. Several people died and more than 300 were injured in the attacks overnight.

Polls are open in New York where voters will decide which presidential candidate should become the nominee. Republicans will compete for 95 delegates. 291 delegates are available for Democrats.
