Fatal shooting involving Missouri trooper under investigation

SATURDAY UPDATE: The Missouri Highway Patrol says Jeffrey Hobbs, of Jackson, Missouri was shot and killed Friday night. The trooper is on leave during the investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly shooting involving a Missouri state trooper in Cape Girardeau County.
Trooper Clark Parrott tells us a trooper involved conducted traffic stop on Highway 177, about 4 miles east of Fruitland, Missouri around 6:25 p.m. Friday. The male driver got out of his car and struggled with the trooper. Parrott says the man got back into his car and dragged the trooper.
Parrott says the trooper told the man to stop or he was going to shoot him. He says the man didn’t stop, and the trooper shot and killed him.
The trooper does not have life-threatening injuries, Parrott says, only scrapes and bruises. An autopsy on the man is scheduled for Saturday morning.
The shooting is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol Drug and Crime Division. We have not yet been told the names of the trooper or the male suspect, but we will bring you more information when details emerge.
